In 2004, the idea for the Institute Strategic Biotechnology, Health
and Training (ISBHT) came from Mahadev Murthy and his wife, Kavita
Murthy, who have lived and worked in the United States (US)
 and
Canada for over 20 years. Both have worked in many educational and
charitable activities. They believe that education, health and
environment are the most important aspects to everyone in India and
elsewhere. Notably, they are committed to advancing
technology-driven educational and public health issues, which stand
out for most people in India irrespective of their socioeconomic
status. The Institute’s goal is to work from a strategic leadership
platform for advancing educational and training activities in public
health and other related activities that would be of significant
interest to most people in India. Given the rapidly changing
infrastructure and communication advantages, the Institute sees the
timing as an opportunity to provide a strong platform for high-entry
barrier fields that would involve cross-cutting translational
technologies ranging from clinical trials to telemedicine. Both
believe that it is an exciting time for India for making a
difference in this area to every one’s life. They believe that India
must produce the next generation of leaders, who can bridge the
technology and knowledge gaps in these fields.
The Institute was established in 2004 as a Public Charitable Trust
(non-profit). The Institute was registered on April 6, 2004 under
the u/s 12A of the Income Tax Act of 1961. The registration number
is DIT (E)/12A/Vol.I/I-220/W-I/04-05. It was issued by the Director
of Income Tax (Exemptions), Ward-I, Bangalore. India. A charitable
institution having been granted recognition under the u/s 80G of the
Income Tax Act, is actively engaged in activities that would be of
interest to the Indian community at large, including educational and
training activities.
